Q: When I was reversing the car, my brother who is seven years old was holding onto the car. I could not see him, so I asked him if he left the car before I reversed the car, but he lied to me and answered in the affirmative. As a result,
the car ran over him against a plough unintentionally and his leg was broken. Fifteen days after the accident, he died
in hospital. Should I fast two consecutive months or free one believing slave? Should I pay Diyah (blood money)? Please advise us. May Allah reward you.

If the case is as you have mentioned, you must offer a Kaffarah (expiation) because you did not make sure that your young brother had moved away from behind the car. Kaffarah is freeing one believing slave; if there is no one available, you must fast two consecutive months and repent to Allah (Exalted be He). (Part No. 21; Page No. 409) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
