Q 2: Your Eminence Shaykh, what is the ruling on giving one's daughter a name that is mentioned in the Qur'an, like Ala', Istabraq or Afnan?


A: Girls can be given any of these names (i.e. Ala', Istabraq or Afnan) and other similar names as long as they do not involve any improper connotations or resemble infidels' names, even if they be mentioned (Part No. 10; Page No. 489) in the Glorious Qur'an.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
