Giving intellect precedence over Divine texts

491

Q: What is the opinion of the Fuqaha' (Muslim jurists) and other scholars regarding those who give precedence to intellect over the Divine texts and arrogantly claim that intellect is the reference for everything? When an authentic Hadith is brought to them, even if it is in Al-Bukhari and Muslim, they object and seek corrupted ways of interpretation to alter its outward meaning. Thus, they dispute over the texts of Hadiths. Is this right or manifest error? Please, advise! A: It is obligatory for Muslims to follow divine texts and reject any other claims. Allah (Glorified be He) says: Follow what has been sent down unto you from your Lord (the Qur’ân and Prophet Muhammad’s Sunnah) and (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allâh and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم). Whoever gives priority to intellect over divine texts is a disbeliever. Allah says: (Part No. 1; Page No. 375

Allah says: (Part No. 1; Page No. 375)  But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
