Reciting the Qur'an loudly in the Masjid

Q 2: Is it permissible to recite the Qur'an loudly in the Masjid (mosque) through loudspeakers before the Fajr (Dawn) Prayer, Jumu‘ah (Friday) Prayer, or any other Salah (Prayer), although there are people offering Sunnah Qabliyyah (supererogatory Prayer performed before an obligatory Prayer) or Tahiyyat-ul-Masjid (two-unit Prayer to salute the mosque)?

A: The Qur’an is the Words of Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He), and reciting it is a purely physical ‘Ibadah (worship). Anyone who listens to Qur’an recitation is rewarded, but if raising the voice during the recitation disturb others, it is necessary to lower the voice until disturbance is eliminated. Regarding the part of the question about assigning the time before Fajr Prayer to reciting the Qur’an loudly in the Masjid, we do not know of any basis in the Shari‘ah (Islamic law) (Part No. 4; Page No. 41) that supports this regular practice at that time.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
