Reciting Surah Al-Inshirah in the Fajr Prayer

962

Q 1: I always recite Surah (Qur’anic chapter) Al-Inshirah in the first Rak‘ah (unit of Prayer) of the Fajr (Dawn) Prayer. I believe that when I recite this Surah in particular I will start a new day. I memorized many Surahs. What is the ruling on specifying the first Raka‘ah of the Fajr with a certain Surah i.e. Al-Inshirah? What is the ruling on my belief and feeling that this will be a new day when I recite Surah Al-Inshirah, though I do not have this feeling when I read any other Surah?

A: It is prescribed to prolong recitation in the Fajr Prayer and to recite of the Qur’an as much as may be easy for you after the Fatihah without specifying one Surah, except for what is particularized by the evidence such as Surah Al-Sajdah and Al-Insan in the Fajr on Friday. Specifying a certain Surah without evidence is Bid‘ah (innovation in religion).May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
