The claim that the rock of Bayt-ul-Maqdis is floating into space

Q 4:Some people say that the Rock near Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa (the Mosque in Jerusalem), where the Prophet (peace be upon him) started his Mi`raj (Ascension to heaven), is suspended in the air by the Power of Allah. Guide us, may Allah reward you!

A: Everything is firmly settled in its normal location by permission of Allah whether it is in the heavens or on earth, including the Rock mentioned in this question. Allah (Exalted be He) says: Verily, Allâh grasps the heavens and the earth lest they should move away from their places, and if they were to move away from their places, there is not one that could grasp them after Him. Allah (Glorified be He) also says: And among His Signs is that the heaven and the earth stand by His Command. This Rock near Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa is not suspended loose in the air with nothing to support it from all directions. (Part No. 1; Page No. 62) It is fixed to the side of the mountain in the natural well known way that things are affixed to each other. However, we cannot deny Allah's ability to grasp any object in a manner that it becomes loosely suspended in the air. All the creatures of Allah are controlled by His Power. It was Allah's Power that raised Mount Tur over the Children of Israel when they refused to act upon the Commandments brought by Musa (Moses, peace be upon him). Allah (Exalted be He) says: And (O Children of Israel, remember) when We took your covenant and We raised above you the Mount (saying): "Hold fast to that which We have given you, and remember that which is therein so that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - See V.2:2). Allah also says: And (remember) when We raised the mountain over them as if it had been a canopy, and they thought that it was going to fall on them. (We said): "Hold firmly to what We have given you [i.e. the Taurât (Torah)], and remember that which is therein (act on its commandments), so that you may fear Allâh and obey Him." Therefore, it is not true that the Rock located near Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem is suspended in the air and is completely detached from the mountain.May Allah grant us success. May Peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions!
